Voith Schneider® Propellers

Over 78 years ago this ship's propulsion system, the only one of its kind in the world was developed by Voith from an idea by the Austrian engineer Ernst Schneider. It allows thrust of any magnitude to be generated in any direction quickly, precisely and in a continuously variable manner. It combines propulsion and steering in a single unit.

This solution is as convincing as it is straightforward: on the Voith Schneider® Propeller, a rotor casing which ends flush with the ship's bottom is fitted with a number of axially parallel blades and rotates about a vertical axis. To generate thrust, each of the propeller blades performs an oscillating motion about its own axis. This is superimposed on the uniform rotary motion. Blade excursion determines the amount of thrust, while the phase angle of between 0° and 360° determines its direction. As a result, the same amount of thrust can be generated in any direction, making this the ideal variable-pitch propeller. Both variables - the magnitude and the direction of thrust - are controlled by a mechanical kinematic transmission.

Alamarin-Jet Oy has manufactured water jet propulsion units since 1976 in Alahärmä, Finland.

Alamarin jets are used by various authorities such as coast guard, police, customs and military authorities. Also Rescue Boat Societies and other demanding professional user categories trust in Alamarin products.

In the civilian applications Alamarin-Jet has attracted a number of user categories over many years. Leisure time fishermen, cottage owners and cruising boat owners value the overwhelming qualities of the water jet propulsion as compared to outboard engines and sterndrives.

Alamarin-Jet Oy is a member of HT LASERTEKNIIKKA Oy group of companies.

Alamarin-Jet Oy is a member of ILAMA(International Lifesaving Appliance Manufacturers´ Association) and of FINNISH MARINE INDUSTRIES FEDERATION FINNBOAT ry.

Servogear AS, established in 1973, has its headquarter at Rubbestadneset, on the picturesque island of Bømlo off the rugged coast of west Norway.

Influenced by the local fast ferry surroundings, Servogear has developed into being Norway's leading producer of high-speed craft controllable pitch propeller systems. The Servogear Propulsion System has gained extensive experience through years of theoretical and practical research.
